High-end internet services
Sinclair Design's primary web server is located in one of the best datacentres in the country.Sinclair Design operates its own high-end hosting and email services from its own robust and secure London-based servers. Part of the reason that the servers and services are so robust and secure is that that the only websites and applications that are hosted on the servers are those designed and coded by Sinclair Design. Furthermore, the only people outside the consultancy that have access of any kind to the servers (including ftp) are experienced professionals directly contracted by Sinclair Design to maintain the servers on a 24/7 basis.
The upside to this set-up is fast, trouble-free hosting and secure data with a whole host of back-up measures should they ever be needed. The down-side is that we only provide website hosting and email services for Site System™ or other web application clients. Sorry!
What is the Internet?
'Net' is short for 'Internet'.
The Internet is a global network of smaller computer networks with a common communication protocol (TCP/IP) and naming system (IP), allowing any two of the millions of computers connected to it, to connect to each other. The Internet evolved from the ARPAnet of the late 60s, which was devised by the US military in order to ensure instant, secure communications between military bases, even if nuclear bombs were dropped.
'Web' is short for 'World Wide Web'.
The World Wide Web is a linked information system comprising of digital web pages stored in common formats (e.g. HTML) on computers throughout the world. The 'web' uses the Internet as a communication channel, but they are not one and the same.
