Sinclair Design — the first ten years

Edwin Coe brochure Edwin Coe, a prestigious firm of City lawyers, became a major client in 1991 and helped the consultancy to find its feet in the corporate sector.

Having been seconded to the RAF's exhibition design unit for three years during his engineering career in the service, Roy Sinclair built on his passion for visual communication by establishing Sinclair Design in 1987. Attention to detail and a drive to do the best possible job soon led to a sound business with trusted suppliers and loyal clients. Staff were taken on and the business grew despite the recession.

Advertising proved unnecessary due to numerous recommendations, and the decision was taken to keep the business small and responsive enough to offer a personal, high-quality, cutting-edge service. This sat well with clients used to dealing with large agencies and before long the consultancy had many high-level clients across the country.

During the mid-to-late nineties, Sinclair Design found itself producing so much varied work for such a diverse range of clients that there was very little in the way of design for print that the consultancy had not experienced and mastered. From high-run, full-colour, 176pg catalogues for members of a buying group, to entire hospital communication systems — no job was too complex.
